She gasped when she saw him. No... no it couldn’t be. He was meant to be hers. He was never meant to be in the arms of another woman.
She tried to move forward, to run. But her feet refused to cooperate. Frozen, she watched as her husband took the strange woman by her waist and led her away.
She woke up with a start and glared at the peaceful man sleeping soundly next to her.
“Get up, Ameer!”
He got up with a start. “What’s wrong?” He looked around wildly.
“How dare you?” She hissed.
His tired eyes focused on her face. “What?”
“Why were you with her?”
“With who?”
“I don’t know!”
He placed his hands on her shoulders. “Aaliya, what on earth are you talking about?”
“You cheated on me!” She said through gritted teeth, clearly frustrated.
“Where did you get that story from?”
“I had a dream, okay?!? And you were with another woman!”
The corners or Ameer’s mouth turned up but he fought to keep the smile off his face. “It was just a dream, darling.”
“Well I’m angry with you!!! How could you?”
Ameer started to shake, trying hard to keep his laughter in. “It was just a dream. It wasn’t real.”
“It was real to me!” She shrieked, her annoyance growing by the second. “You cheated on me!”
“I didn’t cheat on you, honey. It was your mind playing tricks on you. Now relax and let’s try to get some sleep.”
Aaliyah’s overactive imagination almost always got her angry. She would make up unreal scenarios and then got genuinely upset by the stories her own mind perceived.
She watched him as he turned around, desperate to get some sleep. “Get up!” She said, still traumatized by her dream.
He opened one eye and looked at her. “Why?”
“You’re sleeping on the couch. Again!”
Ameen got up, too tired to argue. “Women!” He muttered.
