Stormed In
It was a warm morning, the sky had a sprinkle of puffy clouds and the birds chirped happily. It was a beautiful sight, so beautiful that it was bound to make anyone happy.
Anyone but Sara. Sara sighed in irritation. The beauty of the day was in stark contrast to her grey mood. She brushed a stray strand of hair off her face, the impatience prevalent on her face. She was tired. She was overworked. She was stressed out.
And then she had to deal with that stupid man her parents had forced her to marry. He was older, much older, and he didn’t care about her. He was too interested in that damn business of his.
Sara spent most of her day at the fancy law firm that she worked for. Even if she didn’t have work, she’d find something to do. Anything was better than her stupid house with that stupid man.
She stalked back into the office after having a morning cigarette. She didn’t even like smoking but sometime ago, it had become an annoying habit. She could smell the pungent scent clinging to her clothes but frankly, she didn’t care.
She took a deep breath and slid on her game face mask. According to her colleagues, she was married to the most amazing man on earth. She had lied about it and she no longer felt the guilt.
She grimaced as she thought about her actual marriage. It wasn’t even a marriage. She hated her husband. He was nothing more than a greedy, grumpy old man. Her parents had forced her to marry at the tender age of sixteen because they no longer could afford looking after her. The only good thing that came out of the marriage was that Sara got to study and she finally had enough money to live a good life. But what was the point of a good life if you weren’t even happy?
Her husband didn’t even want her to work but she had insisted and thrown a tantrum to get her way. She wanted to get out of that stupid mansion and her husband’s stupid scent. She hated the fact that he worked from home most of the time. He was always around.
Sara grimaced. When would that horrible man die? She knew that he was always cheating on her. He was sick and perverted. Everyone except her parents had known that.
Her face had been so scrunched up in annoyance, she didn’t notice her colleague, the drop dead gorgeous hunk, Sameer, speaking to her.
“Earth to Sara...” He waved his hand in front of her face.
She jerked and immediately, her features smoothed into a pleasant smile. “Sorry, I was just trying to figure out my game plan for the week.” She lied.
He laughed and flashed her a brilliant smile. Sara stared at the gorgeous man and silently cursed her parents and her husband. This is what she was missing out on. She could’ve had an amazing husband and an amazing life if she hadn’t been forced into marriage.
Her phone rang and glancing at it, she groaned. Why the heck was her husband calling her now?
“Maybe you should take that.” Sameer told her, giving her another to-die-for grin.
Without breaking eye contact with him, she answered the phone. She could hear the giggles of multiple women on the other end. Her husband greeted her and without even bothering to wait for a reply, he said, “I’m going to Milan for the rest of the week. I’d invite you with but the jet will be full.”
Cheers rang out from the women in the background.
“Fine.” Sara replied and hung up.
“Everything okay?” Sameer asked.
Sara grinned. “Everything is perfect.”
Just perfect, she thought to herself in annoyance.
Just then, Sameer’s fiancé walked up to them and Sara turned back to her work. She couldn’t ogle the young man when his fiancé, her best friend, was standing right there.
She envied them. They had it all. They had love and honestly, love was all that they needed. She had never seen happiness quite like theirs.
Sara thoughts about her possessions. She lived a life of luxury but she’d trade it all in for one thing: true love.
She was stormed in...by fate.
I love this, would love to read more of it :)
