Nighttime routine
Nighttime routines are essential for a good nights sleep. There's nothing better than falling off to sleep within minutes of laying your head down on a soft pillow.
Of course, sometimes I'm too tired to follow through with my entire routine so I tone it down a little. But as far as I can help it, I prefer sticking to my routine and then heading to bed so that I can have a restful and refreshing sleep.
I noticed that after I had introduced a set routine before heading to bed, I often fall off to sleep faster. Obviously, there are days when nothing seems to work and you lay awake, wishing to just fall asleep. I mean we were so good at it when we were babies. Why can't we be good at it now?
1. Pray
I usually pray either before or after my shower. Praying is a guaranteed way to relax. Too stressed to think? Pray. Too worried about tomorrow? Pray. Too scared about your new job? Pray. Pour out anything that plagues your mind during prayer and you will most definitely feel better.
2. Go to the bathroom
There's nothing more annoying than having to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. Go to the bathroom before you sleep and make it a strict part of your routine even if you don't feel like using it.
3. Brush your teeth
I cannot sleep without brushing my teeth. Stale breath irks me and the feeling left within my mouth is something that nightmares are made of (I'm exaggerating but you get my point, right?). I ensure that my night time routine includes a trip to the sink so that I can brush my teeth and leave with a fresh mouth.
4. Shower
What's better than a hot shower and then crawling into bed? Pretty much nothing. I love having a nightly shower and allowing the hot water to wash away all my worries of the day.
5. Slathering body lotion all over
I'll admit, I didn't always do this. I used to usually jump out of the shower and wiggle into my pjs. I knew that it would lead to dry skin but I just didn't have the patience. Now I can't seem to skip this step! I recently discovered the Lush Sleepy lotion and I've fallen in love with it! It is so calming and soothing that it actually assists in falling asleep.
5. Getting into comfy pjs
I love pjs. I can slip into my pjs even when I'm getting ready for the day because there's always something so comfortable about it. I don't understand how people can go to bed with jeans on. That's probably one of the most uncomfortable feelings in the world (except maybe trying to answer your dentist’s questions while they busy working in your mouth).
6. Applying skincare products
There was a time when I didn't apply any moisturiser to my face before heading to bed. Now, I can't go to sleep without it! I have a whole nighttime skincare routine that I strictly adhere to.
7. Dry wet hair
I hate drying my hair with artificial heat. For as long as possible, I will allow my hair to naturally air dry. But when I want to sleep, I need to dry it because the feeling of wet hair against my skin is just plain icky.
8. Brush your hair
I don't know how people go to sleep without brushing their hair. I absolutely have to brush my hair before I sleep, otherwise I will not be able to sleep. I just feel as if the tangles will choke me or something like that.
9. Put your phone on the charger
I put my phone on the charger and quickly look through whatever I need to. I'll set my alarm and reply to any urgent messages. All notifications except phone calls are placed on silent.
10. Turn off the lights and jump into bed
Since the cellphone charger does not stretch, I cannot look at my phone while it's charging and that's actually a good thing. Although my phone stays on the night stand next to me, if I need to look at it, I need to lean off the bed and that's just uncomfortable so I don't bother.
After I switch of the lights, I slide into bed and surrender myself to (hopefully) sweet dreams.
What is your night time routine? I'd love to hear all about it in the comments! (PS: you don't have to sign up to another application to comment. It's super easy, try it!)
Very similar to the 1 above except 2 many long minutes online 🙈
