Enemy of her mind
Fear:
Enemy of her mind
The chilly winter night blew a cold wind which seeped into her blood. She was terrified, unwillingly frozen in place. She tightened the blanket around her, hoping for the fear to pass.
It was fear that held her back, fear that placed a barrier which she could not overcome in her life... It was fear that grasped every crevice of her soul, every granule of her being.
She gasped, trying hard to regulate her breathing but to no avail. She wanted to scream, wanted to yell for help but no sound would escape her.
She jerked awake, beads of sweat pouring down her forehead. She nervously licked her salty lips and wildly looked around her. She was safe, in her own bed and yet, the images of her dreams haunted her. She shook her head, trying hard to clear her toxic mind. She needed an escape, she always needed an escape. For it was her mind that was the anchor that made her sink into the deepest of darkness's.
Shakily, she made her way out of the sweat soaked bed and padded to the bathroom. She opened the faucet as water violently blasted out of it. She waited until the water felt icy cold before she splashed her tear stained face with it, welcoming the feeling of freshness. Involuntarily, she shivered. The cold air mixed with the coolness of the bathroom tiles made for a cocktail of emotional turmoil.
A sigh escaped her chapped lips before she sank back into bed. The feeling of being followed creeped up on her again. Glancing around in the utter darkness, she knew that she was alone.
The feeling became an incessant nag, forcing her to acknowledge its existence. She wanted to drown it out, all of it. But how could she? After all, it was her own demons that followed her, ingraining themselves into every last cranny of her fumbled mind.
She was her own enemy...
